American Women quarter program started in 2022. The program will be complete in 2025. These coins feature prominent American women. These women made significant accomplishments in the fields of education, suffrage, civil rights, government, science, space exploration, and arts.
The standard quarters are made of a clad composition that contains copper and nickel. Clad proof quarters and silver proof quarters were also minted and they sell for more money. Keep reading to learn more about these coins.
History
These American Women quarters were minted in order to commemorate historic American women. These coins were first released in 2022.
Series
Different series are available. American Women quarters were minted out of three different mints- Philadelphia, Denver, and San Francisco.
The quarters with the P mint mark were minted out of Philadelphia. Quarters with the D mint mark were minted out of Denver. Quarters with the S mint mark were minted out of San Francisco. The mint mark can be found on the obverse side of each coin under the date.
Design
Sculpter Laura Gardin Fraser's portrait of George Washington was chosen to be featured on the obverse side of the coin. She originally submitted this design in 1931. Her initials LGF can be found at the base of Washington's neck.
The reverse side of each coin features a historic American woman. Multiple designers were used to create these designs.
Value
The clad quarters and the silver quarters have different values.
Clad Quarters
Most clad state quarters in circulated condition will only be worth their face value of $0.25. Clad quarters in uncirculated condition can sell for a premium. Clad proof quarters will sell for higher prices.
Silver Quarters
Any silver American Women quarter is worth at least its weight in silver. These silver quarters are 99% silver.
The silver melt value for each coin is $6.21. This melt value is calculated from the current silver spot price of $30.47 per ounce.
