These Lincoln pennies are also known as Shield pennies. This is because the design on the reverse side of the coin features the Union shield.
The US minted the 2019 penny with no mint mark and also the 2019 D penny, 2019 S proof penny, 2019 W penny, 2019 W proof penny, and 2019 W reverse proof penny. The mint mark, when present, can be found on the obverse side of the coin below the date.
This was the first year that the W mint mark ever appeared on a penny. Pennies with the W mint mark were only issued as bonuses in coin sets. The 2019 W penny was included as a bonus in the 2019 uncirculated coin set. The 2019 W proof penny was included as a bonus in the 2019 proof set. Lastly the 2019 W reverse proof penny was included as a bonus in the 2019 silver proof set.
