The current two dollar bill features President Thomas Jefferson. His portrait has been on the obverse side of the two dollar bill for many years.
Thomas Jefferson was the 3rd president of the United States. Born in 1743, he was one of the founding fathers of the United States. Jefferson served as president from 1804-1809. He is best known for being the main author of the Declaration of Independence.
Early Two Dollar Bills
Thomas Jefferson was not the only person ever featured on a two dollar bill. Some of the early series feature the following historical figures: Alexander Hamilton, George Washington, General Winfield Scott Hancock, Secretary of the Treasury William Windom, and Civil War general James McPherson.
Jefferson was also featured on some of the earlier two dollar bills. He was first seen on the 1869 series $2 legal tender notes.
