What Is a High Serial Number?
A high serial number is defined as any number in the 99990000-99999999 range. For example, 99990014 or 99999354. High serial numbers can be further categorized by how many leading nines are present. The more leading nines you have, the more valuable your bill will be.
The most recent paper currency prints runs have not gone up to 99999999. Therefore older notes are more likely to have high serial numbers.
High serial numbers are less desirable than low serial numbers. However both types can be valuable and in some cases it will depend on the specific serial number (how high or low the number is).
Value
The values listed below relate to low-denomination bills. Higher denomination bills demand less of a premium because in most cases it would make more sense to spend or deposit the bill.
High serial number bills can sell for a premium in both circulated and uncirculated condition. The value will largely depend on how many leading nines the bill has. Bills in uncirculated condition are more sought after and much more valuable.
